American Viewpoint Congratulates Senator-Elect Jack Goodman

State Senator-Elect Jack Goodman won an overwhelming victory in yesterday’s election, defeating longtime former Democratic State Representative Nolan McNeill by over 35-points. Serving as the campaign pollster, American Viewpoint helped develop messaging and key targets for the campaign as well as giving general strategic guidance.

American Viewpoint Director of Political Affairs Randall Gutermuth stated after the race, "In the face of some difficult headwinds nationally, the Goodman campaign focused on fiscally conservative issues and his vision for the state. He overwhelmed his opponent by running up huge margins with the base. This is a big win for Goodman, Governor Blunt and all Missouri Republicans."

Goodman’s opponent and the Democratic Party spent much of their resources late in the campaign on attack television ads and mailings. However, one of these ads was so false it actually had to be pulled from the air. "We saw in our final survey a week out from the election that the Democrats’ attacks were having little impact and lacked credibility. This allowed the campaign to stick to their plan without having to spend time and resources responding to the baseless claims," Gutermuth stated.

American Viewpoint has been part of nearly every major election in Missouri over the past few cycles including an upset State Senate special election victory earlier this year in which Senator Bill Alter became the first Republican to represent a district that was within former Congressman Gephardt’s old Congressional District. American Viewpoint has also conducted polling in Missouri on behalf of Bush-Cheney ’04, Senator Jim Talent, Governor Matt Blunt, Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder, Treasurer Sarah Steelman, Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson, Congressman Roy Blunt, Amendment Three (2004 Transportation Initiative) and the Missouri GOP Senate caucus (Senate Majority Fund).
